• Directions for Chromebook Distribution

Posted by Peter Fuchs on 8/27/2020

    Hello,

This is Robert Julian Principal of JFK Middle and High School.  Please read this important message about next week’s Chromebook Distribution.

Chromebooks will be distributed from the JFK High School Back Parking Lot on Tuesday, September 1st from 11:00 am - 2:30 pm and 5:00 - 7:00 pm only.

PLEASE NOTE: Only students in “Hybrid Group B” and “100% Remote” need to pick up a Chromebook.  Students in “Hybrid Group A” will receive their Chromebooks on the first day of school Tuesday, September 8th.  Additionally, if you still have a District-issued Chromebook from the 2019-2020 school year, you need not pick up an additional Chromebook; your child may continue to use the Chromebook they currently have during the 2020-2021 school year.

**To ensure security and confidentiality, Chromebooks may only be distributed to parents/guardians of our students or the students themselves.  Personal/District-issued items may not be given to friends, neighbors, or extended family members for privacy reasons.**

Ensuring a safe and fluid flow of traffic is critical.  Please read the following directions and review the bird’s eye view map of our traffic flow.  You will notice that this is the same process as our item pickup/return that we held last June.

    • To begin, vehicles will enter our campus at the traffic light across from the Henry Street bridge.  Please do not enter the front bus loop.  When on campus, drive slowly and yield to staff members directing traffic and/or cones in the parking lot.
    • Proceed to the back parking lot where staff members will greet visitors and distribute items from our back doors.
    • When you arrive into the back lot near our back doors, pull forward slowly and stop in the line of vehicles.  We ask each car to then roll down the passenger side window and state your child’s name.  If it is easier and more comfortable, the driver may list the student’s name and grade level on a sheet of paper and attach that to a passenger side window or hold that up for the staff member to view.  Staff members may ask your relationship to the student for our record keeping purposes.
    • The pink dots on the map indicate where the vehicles will be met by staff members.
    • A staff member will then retrieve your child’s Chromebook from inside of the building, return to the vehicle, and open the car door and/or place materials in the vehicle through an open window.
    • When complete, proceed out of the back lot in a circular direction, paying close attention to the traffic that may be entering our campus.

Thank you again for reading this important message, and we look forward to seeing you soon!

  • Principal's Message for 6/4

Posted by Robert Julian on 6/4/2020

    Good Afternoon,

This is Robert Julian Principal of JFK High School and Acting Principal of JFK Middle School. Please read this important message about next week’s Personal Property Pick-Up Plan.

To begin, please see a letter from Mrs. Galenski on our District Webpage for the specific dates and times to pick up your child’s materials.  Dates and times have been organized and assigned by grade level.  Due to our process inside the building, we ask that you please visit us during the time assigned for your child’s grade level.

Please note that to ensure student privacy, items may only be returned to parents/guardians of our students or the students themselves.  Personal items may not be given to friends, neighbors, or extended family members for privacy reasons.

Additionally, ensuring a safe and fluid flow of traffic is critical. Please read the following directions and review the bird’s eye view map of our traffic flow.

    • To begin, vehicles will enter our campus at the traffic light across from the Henry Street bridge.  Please do not enter the front bus loop.  When on campus, drive slowly and yield to staff members directing traffic.

    • Proceed to the back parking lot where teams of teachers will greet visitors and distribute items from our back doors.

Staff members will also ask your relationship to the student for our record keeping purposes.

    • A staff member will then retrieve your child’s materials from inside of the building, return to the vehicle, and open the car door and/or place materials in the vehicle through an open window. Due to the size of the bags, you may prefer we place the items in the trunk of the vehicle.

    • During this process, items may also need to be returned to school.  When your vehicle is parked, you may need to hand us items through an open window or out of the trunk.  Please work with your children ahead of time to collect and organize all school-district items to bring back to us. These items may include, but are not limited to: paper-based instructional packets, textbooks, library books, athletic uniforms and sports equipment, drama scripts, sheet music, instruments, and medical supplies.  Please note, we are not collecting chromebooks at this time.

    • When complete, proceed out of the back lot in a circular direction, paying close attention to the traffic that may be entering our campus.  Once again, these steps and a visual have been posted to my Principal’s Message tab for you to view.

I would also like to mention that our PTO, in partnership with members of our faculty, have prepared a special surprise visit to our 8th Graders and their families for tomorrow, June 5th, as a part of our 8th Grade Moving Up Day recognition. Teams plan to visit each student’s home after 12:00 pm.  Thank you very much to our PTO and volunteer teachers for organizing such a wonderful surprise visit!

As a reminder, our last day of instruction is June 12, and grades close on June 15.

Thank you again for reading this important message, and we look forward to seeing you soon!

  • Updates from Mr. Julian

Posted by Peter Fuchs on 5/26/2020

    Dear JFK Middle School Families:

I sincerely hope this update finds you and your families safe and well during this challenging time.  My name is Robert Julian and I am the Principal of JFK High School, and currently the Acting Principal of JFK Middle School for the duration of the 2019-2020 school year.  Although I have met many community members over the course of this past school year, I would like to formally introduce myself to our Middle School families.

As you may know, I joined our District in July of 2019 when I began my tenure with the Cheektowaga-Sloan Union Free School District.  I am truly passionate about education and look forward to supporting our faculty, staff, students and families.  I am honored to lead our Middle School and grateful for this opportunity.

    Principal’s Message Tab

I would like to begin by encouraging you to visit this page frequently.  Similar to the High School, I plan to use the Principal’s Message tab on our website to communicate important updates to our families.  Although we are nearing the end of the school year, I will continue to post information here for your reference.

    Paper-Based Packets & Return of School-Issued Items

Please note that during the personal property pick-up we do plan to collect the paper-based packets containing academic work that was assigned between March 16th - June 5th. Families will keep the academic work that was prepared for June 8th - June 12th, as teachers will still be checking in with families during those final days of instruction.

In addition, please begin to prepare and organize any school issued-items that need to be returned to school. These items include, but are not limited to: instruments, library materials, textbooks, sports uniforms, drama scripts, etc. These items will be collected when you arrive on our campus to pick up personal property items.

I will provide families with more specific details during my upcoming All-Call on June 4th.

    Important Dates

In the days ahead, we will be conducting our classroom and locker cleanout. Please read Mrs. Galenski’s letter on our District website for a list of dates and times for middle school families.

Additionally, please see the following important dates listed below:

JUNE 4: ALL-CALL WITH SPECIFIC DETAILS FOR MIDDLE SCHOOL PICK-UP PLAN

    JUNE 8: GRADE 6 & GRADE 7 PICK-UP

    JUNE 9: GRADE 8 PICK-UP

JUNE 12: LAST DAY OF INSTRUCTION

    JUNE 15: GRADES/ASSESSMENTS CLOSE

JUNE 19: REPORT CARDS MAILED HOME

    8th Grade Moving Up Day

We certainly share in your disappointment over the extended school closure and the many events that were cancelled.  Yet, I would like our 8th graders and their families to know that I am collaborating with our Middle School Team Leaders and PTO in order to honor our 8th graders as they transition to the High School. Details will be made public as soon as they are available.

    Yearbooks

As you may know, we are currently awaiting information regarding the availability and distribution of yearbooks.  I would like to thank our Yearbook Co-Advisers for their diligence in this area.  We do anticipate distributing a yearbook to all students and families who purchased one as soon as the publishing company can provide them to us. Thank you for your patience as we wait for the most current information.

    Medical Supplies

If you have any necessary medical supplies currently in our nurse’s office that you need immediately we encourage you to contact Ms. Sheila Solomon as soon as possible so that we may organize a safe pickup of your items.  Otherwise, items currently in our nurses’ office will be prepared in conjunction with our personal property pick-up during the 2nd week of June.  Please email Ms. Solomon at ssolomon@cheektowagasloan.org if you would like your medical items sooner, and we can certainly accommodate your request.

    Contact

When on campus I will be working from my high school office location, but will be available to all Middle School families as well. Please feel free to call the Middle School main office and/or reach me via email at RJulian@cheektowagasloan.org with any questions or concerns.

    In Closing

Thank you again for taking the time to read this update.  Please check this page in the future for more updates as they become available.  Once again, I am humbled and honored to lead the Middle School as we successfully close the 2019-2020 school year, and look forward to supporting our community during these challenging times.

    Take Care,

    Robert N. Julian, Jr.
