    CSUFSD ‘24-‘25 Budget Vote 

    A special thank you to our Cheektowaga-Sloan community for approving our 2024-2025 budget! It means so much to us to have your support, and we cannot wait to begin our upcoming capital project. Go Bears!

     

    “Top Three” Honored!

    Congratulations to Aster, Ashley, and Allie for representing JFK as the “Top Three” Academic students in the Class of 2024.  Aster, Ashley, and Allie were honored on May 23rd at the Erie-Niagara School Superintendents Association’s annual Scholastic Achievement Recognition Dinner where they were presented with the coveted “Crystal Bison” award! Please see photo below.

     

    Last Day of Instruction

    The last full day of instruction at the High School will be Thursday, June 13th. Please remind your children to take all of their personal belongings home on this day.  Additionally, we will host a locker clean-out day on June 13th; students in each grade level will have an opportunity to clean out their lockers and dispose of any trash during a specified time during the school day.

     

    Final Exam Schedule

    If your child is taking the Algebra I Regents Exam, it will be given on Tuesday, June 4th beginning at 8:00 am at JFK High School.  Absent or late students may be required to retake this exam in August 2024 or January 2025.

     

    Additionally, please note that the Earth Science Lab Practical is given during Regents week.

     

     

    Transportation During Regents Week 6/14-6/25:

      

    *MORNING EXAMS: ALL MORNING BUSES RUNNING AT NORMAL TIMES. STUDENTS SHOULD BE AT THEIR NORMAL PICKUP LOCATIONS.

    *MIDDAY & AFTERNOON EXAMS: BUSES PICK UP AT JFK @ approx. 10:45 AM; BUSES THEN DROP STUDENTS OFF AND PICK UP FOR AFTERNOON EXAMS. 

    *STUDENTS LOOKING FOR MIDDAY TRANSPORTATION TO JFK PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING: 

    *PLEASE ADJUST YOUR STOP BY GOING TO THE NEAREST CORNER AS PER FIRST STUDENT.  MIDDAY BUSES WILL NOT PICK UP DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF HOMES.

    *BE AT THE NEAREST CORNER AT 11:00 AM. BUS MAY ARRIVE ANYTIME BETWEEN 11:00 AM-11:15 AM to take students to JFK for afternoon exams.

    *AFTERNOON: ALL AFTERNOON BUSES RUNNING AT NORMAL TIMES. BUSSES WILL DEPART JFK HS AT/AROUND 2:20 PM.

    *No late bus during exam week

    Academic Learning Center

    Our Academic Learning Centers will be open during the exam week in order for students to make up missing assignments and prepare for exams.  Some students may be required to attend these sessions in order to achieve course credit.  Classroom teachers will advise students who are expected to attend the ALC during exam week.

     

    Athletics Update

    In the coming weeks, current students in grades 6-11 will have the opportunity to sign up for our fall sports offerings. Fall sports include JV football, cheerleading, golf, cross country, boys’ volleyball (combined at Cheektowaga Central), Varsity girls’ soccer, and girls’ volleyball.     Additionally, after a very successful season, JFK High School’s Varsity Boys and Girls Outdoor Track Team had a total of 14 students named as Scholar Athletes by the NYS Public HS Athletic Association! Awesome job Bears!!

     

    JFK Senior Breaks Record, Featured on WKBW Channel 7!

    Senior Ashley Wilkowski broke a long-standing career strikeout record for Varsity Softball.  Ashley amassed over 400 strikeouts in her career at JFK!  Ashley was selected as the Channel 7 Super 7 Athlete of the Week and featured in an awesome news story. Congratulations to Ashley--you have made us all so proud!

    JFK DRAMA SHINES AT SHEA’S HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL THEATER AWARDS!

    On Saturday, May 25th students from JFK Drama competed as one of 20 WNY schools as semi-finalists in the first annual Shea's High School Musical Theatre Awards! We are so proud to announce that JFK took home some hardware! 

    • JFK Drama's 2024 production of The Sound of Music received the Spirit of Wonder Magic of Theatre Award! 

    • Alivia Ciapa was presented with the All-Star award.

    • And something I'm so excited to share with you: Our Director Matt Refermat received the inaugural Michael Shea Award for Theatre Educator of the Year!

    A media exploration lesson on acrylic painting and mixing value. 

    Students painted 352 - 3" x 3" squares of what seemed to be random designs, but when assembled, they created a “Mystery Portrait” of JFK. Well done Studio in Art!

     

    National Honor Society Induction 🎓

    Here at JFK HS, we are looking forward to this year’s National Honor Society Induction Ceremony.  This year’s ceremony will be held on Tuesday, April 23rd beginning at 7 PM in the Greenauer Auditorium.  Students who have been selected for NHS will receive a letter in the mail from the faculty council with all of the important details and information.  The formal induction will be hosted by NHS Advisor Mrs. Damico.  There will be plenty of time for sincere congratulations, photographs with students and families, and light refreshments served by the District.

    Academic Update ☑️

    *The end of the 3rd Quarter is almost here! The 3rd Quarter ends Friday, April 19th and report cards will be mailed to homes on/about Wednesday, April 24th.  Check the eSchool parent/student portal as early as Wednesday, April 24th for grade reports.

     

    *AP Exams run Monday, May 6th - Thursday, May 16th and will be administered at JFK High School.  Please see the following link for a schedule: AP Exams

     

    *June 2023 Regents Exams begin Tuesday, June 4th with Algebra I, followed by traditional exam week(s) Friday, June 14th through Wednesday, June 26th.  A detailed Regents & Local Exam schedule will be posted in school and on our website soon.

    Spring Sports in Full Swing 🥎👟⚾🧢

    Spring sports season is in full swing at JFK! Softball, baseball, tennis, and track & field are all practicing and in preparation for competitive action. Our coaches and student-athletes are enjoying their respective seasons and embracing all of the ups and downs that come from the joy of sport.     The Arts at JFK 🎭 

    *Our May concert season begins with our Spring Concert on Wednesday, May 1st. The Wind Ensemble & Concert Choir will be performing a variety of music for your enjoyment. Additionally, the Wind Ensemble and Concert Choir will be participating in the Darien Lake Music Festival on Friday, May 17th. The day-long event features bands from all over New York and Pennsylvania in an adjudicated competition. Lastly, our District Concert will be held on Tuesday, May 21st during the Budget Vote.  We can’t wait! 🎵 

    *This spring, JFK Drama is once again producing a One-Act performance with many interested students of JFK MS/HS to participate in the cast and crew. 

    TITLE: Charlotte’s Web 

    DATES/TIMES: Friday May 10th and Saturday May 11th @ 7pm 

    LOCATION: Greenauer Auditorium, JFK HS

    COST: All tickets are $10 (cash only) and can be purchased at the door 💵

    We look forward to our annual Memorial Day Remembrance Ceremony on Thursday, May 23rd

     

     

    CSUFSD Budget Hearing and Budget Vote ☑️

    *As a reminder, the annual CSUFSD Budget Hearing will take place on Tuesday, May 14th at 7:00 PM at Theodore Roosevelt Cafetorium. This meeting is open to the public.

    *We are so excited for this year’s Budget Vote! We will host the District-wide Art Show, musical performances, & food and treats for families! All are welcomed and invited to JFK High School for this amazing event.  Stay tuned for more details and information for families in the days ahead!

    Strive for 5 (days per week!) ⏰

    Please accept this friendly reminder that we expect our students here every day, all day, in order to provide them with the best education possible. If your child is going to be absent, please contact the main office or our school nurse and be sure to submit a note (including date, reason for absence, and parent/guardian signature) within 24 hours of the absence.     Please remember, schedule changes cannot be made past June 30, 2024. It is very important to speak with your child(ren) to ensure they select appropriate courses for next year.     High Grades, Sweet Treats! 🍦

    I am so proud to report that nearly 50% of all students in grades 9-12 achieved the Honor Roll during the 2nd Quarter! Any student who achieved an 89.5% or higher overall average was rewarded with a complimentary ice cream treat in lunch courtesy of the JFK HS main office and Mrs. Greene, our Director of Food Services. Congratulations all, and keep up the good work!

    Academic Remediation Program  -- FREE TUTORING AT JFK HS!
    Please remember we have academic remediation programs available in many courses.  These remediation programs are opportunities for students to receive direct instruction from our teachers in course content which results in improved grades and academic performance.  Teachers are standing by ready to help students after school Monday-Thursday from 2:25 PM -3:25 PM in the following subject areas: Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, Earth Science, Living Environment, Chemistry, English 9-12, Civics, Economics, Physical Education Credit Recovery, and Spanish.  If you are interested in having your child join one of these sessions please ask your child to speak to their teacher or you can call the main office.  The program runs March 4th- through May 16th--so please act now if interested!

     

    Code of Conduct Meetings

    As the weather improves and we enter the second half of the year, we ask that all parents/guardians have a conversation with their children about the importance of following all school rules and expectations at all times, including attending all classes on time; using respectful language in the hallways, classrooms, and cafeteria; and adhering to our dress code including our hood/hat/headwear policy as outlined in our District’s Code of Conduct.  Your partnership is critically important in this area and will help everyone experience a safe, orderly, and pleasant school environment. Mr. Conrad and I will be hosting assemblies with all students next week in order to reinforce these concepts. Thank you in advance!

     

    A hard-fought game against cross-town rival, Cleve Hill!

     

     

    Winter Athletics Highlights…

    Congratulations to Olivia Rhoat who made the Varsity Bowling all-star team with a 182 scoring average!  She had the highest average of all bowlers in small schools.  Olivia’s high game was 278, and she averaged 691 per match--WOW! 🎳

     

    Our JFK Girls’ Varsity Basketball team won 11 games this season and earned a first round playoff bye.  Excellent job to the Lady Bears!  Additionally, our girls Competitive Cheerleading team competed in 3 competitions and took 2nd place in one of them.  They hosted a very successful Cheerleading competition right here at JFK as well-- Well done! 🏀

     


    Michael Mingle recognized alongside JFK Basketball Coaches!

     

    Last week, Junior Michael Mingle scored his 1,000th point as a JFK Varsity Basketball player. Michael has been a three-year starter on Varsity, and has continued to perform well for the Bears! Well done Michael!

    We encourage everyone in our community to join us for a performance of The Sound of Music live on stage in our Greenauer Auditorium.  Additionally, all students in grades 9-12 will be treated to a musical preview assembly during the school day. Tickets to the show will be available for purchase at the door each night. Please note that tickets can be purchased with cash or a check made payable to JFK Drama.  However, we cannot accept any debit/card/ or electronic Venmo payments. Thank you in advance!

    Solar Eclipse Safety

    As you know, Buffalo will be in the “Path of Total Solar Eclipse” on Monday, April 8, 2024.  Please remember to discuss solar eclipse safety with your children. It is unsafe to look directly at the sun without specialized eye protection for solar viewing.  Here is a link from NYS with helpful information about this rare event:

    As we look ahead to January Regents Exams, it is important to be aware of the upcoming January 2024 Regents Week schedule. We have a regular school day Monday, January 22nd followed by exams Tuesday, January 23rd through and including Friday, January 26th.  Additionally, buses will run on our normal schedule with a midday pickup/drop off. Please contact your child’s counselor with any questions or to see if your child needs to take an exam. See bus times below:

    January Regents Exams FAQs 

    We often field questions prior to the January Regents Week regarding several items such as transportation schedules, BOCES/CTE classes, food services, after school activities, etc. To that end, we put together an FAQ document as a reference for families and students.
